Self-driving trucks will cut logistics costs in half and boost GDP
“The digitization and automation of processes and delivery vehicles will reduce logistics costs for standardized transport by 47% by 2030, according to a new report from PwC’s Strategy and consultancy.
The Global Truck Study 2018 has found that around 80% of these savings will be attributable to the reduction of personnel in the transport and logistics industry. In addition, there will be enormous increases in efficiency: autonomous lorries, for example, will be able to travel 78% of the time from 2030 onwards, as opposed to 29% of the time since 2030. This will be because there will be no breaks for drivers and idling time will be reduced through the use of algorithms…”

Synoptic 1 The loaders and unloaders will all live right on site of yhe company that owns them. They are always nearby and ready and willing to work 24/7 because working is their entire life. . They don’t need holidays off because they celebrate no holidays. Don’t have to worry about healthcare coverage or paid sick leave because they will never get sick. No need for paid vacation time off because they don’t know no maternity leave, na world exists outside your company. Don’t have to worry about them suing you for sexual harrassment because of obvious reasons, but may have to worry about human employees suing you because a robot hit on them or touched them inappropriately because that’s what humans do, especially if you own a company that manufacturers sex robots That does make me a little curious about how thorough the quality assurance testing is at those one of those factories, hmmmm. That would be a weird job to have especially if someone asks what you did at work today, just saying. Anyway, there would be no complaining, no gossiping and no overly chatty employees or social butterflies, obvious reasons. Best of all, the don’t require overtime pay or any pay at all because you own them and how would they cash a payroll check even if you. Getting an I’d and a bank account would be a problem with only a serial number and warranty instead of a social security number or birth certificate. Yes, the future of employment for humans does not look promising. To quote a guy at a Ted Talks regarding what skills can humans have to stay relevant vs ai in the workplace, he said “you will have the ability to ask great questions!” Yep.
Unemployment will hit an all time high, how many families will be effected? Everything any one owns came from/on a truck. EVERYTHING. That means about 1 our of say 10 (not sure exactly) will need assistance
There is an old story that I heard years ago about a salesman and Henry Ford. The salesman said “I can set your factory to make your cars automatically, think of it, no more staff problems and the cost saving”. Henry Ford thought for a minute then said “And who am I going to sell them to?”

I think I made the punch line a bit confusing. What Henry Ford meant was “Great, I can sack all my staff, then with everyone on benefits who will have the cash to buy my cars”
