“Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and Gottlieb Paludan Architects have just won an international competition to design the world’s largest waste-to-energy plant in Shenzhen, China. Housed within a massive green-roofed and solar-powered structure, the proposed Shenzhen East Waste-to-Energy Plant is expected to incinerate 5,000 tonnes of waste per day—equivalent to a third of the waste produced by Shenzhen’s 20 million inhabitants every year.
