General Motors Is Going All Electric.
General Motors Is Going All Electric.
“After more than a century peddling vehicles that pollute the atmosphere, General Motors is ending its relationship with gasoline and diesel. This morning, the American automotive giant announced that it is working toward an all-electric, zero-emissions future. That starts with two new, fully electric models next year—then at least 18 more by 2023…”

Keith Ramey As you see in my previous link. Solar alone is expected to add about 85 Gigawatts of generating capacity inn this year. I would think it is within reach to add another 100 GW next year. Because of the capacity factor of solar pv you need 4-5 times as many GW of solar to produce as much energy over the year as each GW of nuclear or coal power. That means that next year will bring new energy generation eqivalent of 20 x 1GW nuclear/coal powerplant.
Keith Ramey Volvo is all in (https://goo.gl/9iVkRB). VW is half in (https://goo.gl/MVBsqy). Jaguar and Land Rover are all in (https://goo.gl/s8H5z1). Nissan, Mitsubishi and Renault are half in (https://goo.gl/fDwCGf). Ford is half in (https://goo.gl/KRQsQT). China is completely in (https://goo.gl/f4gYYf). India is completely in (https://goo.gl/dRaCB9). Basically, the majority are all already there. If you don’t think that they will be working on the infrastructure as well for it, well, you might want to think harder. Tesla alone is installing an additional 7000 superchargers by the end of this year (charges to 80% of a 75kwh battery…that’s about 280 miles…within 15 minutes) to add to the already 7000 around the country. I don’t remember the last parking garage I went to that doesn’t have an electric charger in it, and all new buildings in many of the country’s biggest cities are already mandating those for new constructions. That’s a whole new industry and economy that’s about to break wide open. With 1 Gigafactory almost completed and two more already breaking ground, our two choices are, roll with it, or get left in the dust. All that needs to catch up now is the mainstream’s thinking. We’re already there…
Keith Ramey Please elaborate what exactly you think will be bottlenecks or major barriers for widespread electrification. And I grant you that there is significant environmental impact of making all the batteries. But that would still aggregate to a significantly smaller impact than extracting and bruning petroleum. Also the impact of batteries will go down once a significant portion of new batteries are made from recycling of old.
Beautiful car
Keith Ramey You can bitch and moan and posture and conjure cute imags of unicorns and complain all you want, but that’s the trend, and that’s where it’s headed, whether you like it or not, and as much as this might hit your pride, the future and the trends sure as shit don’t care if you like it or not. Oh, and regarding your nonsense about the chargers, yeah, they exist in rural areas too. You’re just not looking hard enough because you don’t have an electric car. You can drive a Tesla from NY to LA and from Seattle to MIA without worrying about getting a charge, and 7000 more chargers across the country before this year is out. And soon, they’ll be at all your gas stations as well courtesy Shell Oil of all people: https://goo.gl/fESiex cleantechnica.com – Shell Working On “Smart” EV Charging To Even Out Grid Demand, Exec Says

Keith Ramey And in case you missed the facts from the comments above, I’ll copy and paste the one just a few up from yours; Volvo is all in (https://goo.gl/9iVkRB).
