Tesla begins production of solar roof tiles in Buffalo, New York
“It’s official! Tesla has started producing solar roof tiles at its factory in Buffalo, New York. Several hundred employees and machines have been installed in the 1.2 million-square-foot factory, and they are now creating tiles that can harness the sun’s energy without compromising the appearance of a roof…”

Elegant
Brilliant… Solar roofs that will be covered in 4 feet of snow four months a year.
J.J. Fox Your ignorance and adverse approach to technology would do well to do some research before you just decide to brain vomit based on your pride alone. Number one, I wouldn’t balk at 8 months of solar energy per year, and number two, they are incorporating heating elements that defrost the roof in cold and snowy weather. “Musk also speculated that some of the glass tiles could incorporate heating elements that could act like defrosters for your roof, allowing homeowners in cooler climates to melt snow off the tops of their houses.” And furthermore, they’re MANUFACTURING them in Buffalo, so that’s not necessarily where they’ll be used. So next time you think you know everything, try to remind yourself that, well, you don’t.
Have you ever been to Buffalo Wasim Muklashy ?
I’ve seen 4 feet of snow fall overnight… It would take an obscene amount of energy to melt it as fast as it falls let alone heat a 1.2 million square foot factory… Transportation of the product out of the area would be problematic as well.
BTW, I’m not some backwoods ludite that has no knowledge of this topic… I was pulling on wrenches (both sae and metric) before you were a twinkle in your daddy’s eye. Having been the national service manager for several international manufacturers training hundreds of Technicians throughout North America from Panama to the Yukon Territory how to troubleshoot hydraulic systems and electrical control circuits, and more recently project manager for the Intelligent Compaction Initiative being developed in partnership with industry, several major Universities and the DOT, I may know a thing or two about emerging technology…
I feel that there are only two probable reasons to pick Buffalo…
Currently New York State is offering Ten years of Tax abatement to companies that relocate there and to a lesser degree it’s proximity to the new Corning Glass facility nearby…
All that being said I wouldn’t have bothered with a response, but after looking at your profile I respect your enthusiasm and photographic accomplishments. I was fortunate enough to have had the privilege to study with the late Peter Feresten, MFA who taught me how to grow beyond the mechanics of just taking a picture and appreciate the artistic side of the medium.
I wish Tesla good luck with this endeavor as well as the good people of Buffalo (and the rest of upstate NY) They are a special breed that are used to overcoming adversity… =^.^=

J.J. Fox This reply makes me extremely happy. Thank you for your thoughtful response. If this had been your original comment, my response would have been very very different, as that one does not even come close to conveying who you have demonstrated to be through this reply. So while I apologize for my coarseness on the last one, I do not take it back, for without it, I may not have had the pleasure of this glimpse of the real J.J. – The one that does know what he’s talking about.
Humbly,
wasim.
Wasim Muklashy sometimes I make smarmy retorts just to see if there is any intelligent life around, and in this case I found it…
