Bill Nye: This is The Technology Can We Expect to Have 50 Years From Now
“Bill Nye, everyone’s favorite science guy, recently appeared on the youtube series Big Think to answer a very difficult question from a young engineering student: “What technology can we expect to have 50 years from now?”
#future = #robots #tech #innovation #science #design #singularity #engineering #automation #AI #artificialintelligence
Jake ArMStrong No.
Jake ArMStrong that’s a horrible thing to say to another human being.
Jake ArMStrong You people usually are.
Jake ArMStrong Bigots.
Change begins with each of us
sends best wishes
Jake ArMStrong It’s absolutely called bigotry when you open with “You cannot even complete a sentence, get out of our country.” Nice try though.
Jake ArMStrong Funny, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” was only possible because of science. Hard to believe a guy that rejects science by the same agency that sent man to the moon is a step forward. Again, nice try though.
Jake ArMStrong “Sorry young man, I wasn’t rejecting science, I was rejecting your name that sounds like a muslim name.” Number one, I was talking about ‘your guy’ Donald Trump. And number two, you say that as if that’s any better!? I am Palestinian. I was born in Nazareth, yes THAT Nazareth. I have many Muslim friends. I have many Jewish friends. I have many Christian friends. I have many athiest friends. I was raised Christian and since learning the divisions they create, I now reject all organized religion precisely because it leads to statements like “Sorry young man, I wasn’t rejecting science, I was rejecting your name that sounds like a muslim name.” Does any part of you realize how gross a statement like that is? My religion is good people. Period. I don’t give a hot damn if it’s a snake or a human or a rat or an elephant that you decide to pray to. If you’re a good person and you do good things, that’s all I need. If you’re a bigot and you reject people because of their religion rather than their personal merits, well, you’re still lost and there’s nothing I can, or care, to do about that.
Jake ArMStrong this all started because you thought his name sounded Middle Eastern? Really? And Islam is definitely legal here. We are a nation with no one religion. I highly doubt that you’ve read through the Quran, much less the Bible.
Hunter Hubers Thanks Hunter. He’s not the first and he won’t be the last. Truthfully, I feel sorry for folks like that. Their minds are so closed they miss out on the most beautiful aspects of life – its diversity. I mean, I love hamburgers, but I don’t want to just eat hamburgers every meal every day. But, hey, to each their own…
Wasim Muklashy I couldn’t agree with you more. It sadness me knowing that there are people who feel such hatred over something as simple as a name. As long as we keep defending each other and other good human beings, their hatred will die out. Maybe not in my lifetime, but someday.
Jake ArMStrong I would like a source for anything that you have said. Family books? You can’t be that daft.
Hunter Hubers Oh it’s coming quickly. Always remember, the youth overwhelmingly voted against Trump and even with his electoral win, he still lost the popular vote by 3 million. The trend is heavily in our favor. They’ve had their centuries. We just have to weather a couple more old-man-strength outbursts. Plus, admittedly, we just got lazy and needed a wake up call. We got that. And we got this.
Jake ArMStrong quick question. Are you Native American? If not. Maybe you should leave the land your ancestors stole?
Jake ArMStrong I think this would have made sense perhaps a few hundred years ago, but what does ‘their own land’ even mean? Shall we conveniently ignore one of the biggest (continued) genocides in world history, that of the Native Americans? And as a Palestinian born in Palestine, where shall I go? Diversity can also serve to help appreciate both rather than erase both, and in a world that is beginning to find more similarities than differences, that’s the route I’d rather go. The only reason we wouldn’t is so that those in control of us can continue to use the age-old divide and conquer techniques. I celebrate diversity. Diversity allows us to connect on levels and share experiences and information and expertise on levels never before possible, and to me, I find that exciting and liberating. Plus, it feels much better than hating.
Jake ArMStrong Have you ever played the telephone game? The one where you tell someone something in their ear and they tell the next person and so on and at the end, the final statement is completely different than what it started off as? That is literally the exact same thing that would happen with education if we left it to ourselves. For ideologies, fine, whatever, but for science and math and grammar and such things, I would rather Bill Nye teach my kids science than myself. He has dedicated his life to learning and doing science. I haven’t. However, yes, I’d teach my kids photography and videography since I’ve spent my life doing that and he hasn’t. I would rather a math teacher show me how to do math rather than make it up as I go and have my own biases and ideologies dictate concrete topics like math and science and whatnot. Your argument hold little water to me. My freedom of thought and to explore has expanded beyond my wildest imaginations the more I travel, the more people I meet, the more I learn, the more I experience, and you know what, we’re literally ALL the same. We have the same worries, we want the same things, we have the same thoughts, feelings, concerns, all of it. And quite honestly, to me, that’s a beautiful thing. You can call me whatever labels you like, but if I’m helping people and not hurting anyone by accepting them, I feel better than if I close myself off from them. And I like feeling good. And is anyone standing besides me? Oh God yes, millions of strangers along with friends, family, community, and city. Life can be rich and beautiful too if you let life happen.
Jake ArMStrong Of course it got personal after almost 50 MILLION of them were slaughtered on their own land and home. Of course it would get personal. Are they supposed to just roll over? And you’re completely contradicting yourself by saying visit, trade, and return. By your standards, white people have stayed. They haven’t returned home. They’re still here. And regarding why doesn’t Palestine fight for Palestine? They can’t. They have been slaughtered on their own lands as well and have tanks pointed at their faces every waking hour. They can’t even get their children to hospitals or see their grandparents who are fenced off from them. I think you need to do some research on that land before 1948. Israel only welcomes me because they were forced to give me citizenship there as well since my parents were born there before they immigrated here to escape oppression, EXACTLY like your ancestors did. But they’re not happy about it, as their airport search of me last summer when I went to visit family very clearly showed me. The sad part is? On the ground, the people are fine. Jews eating, drinking, sleeping, partying with Muslims, Christians, you name it. The diversity and openness is beautiful. But politics have politicized religion, and, again, that’s where the problems have arisen. Now everyone’s focusing on all the divisions rather than the central tenets of all religion: love, acceptance, good. So again, by your own standards, perhaps you should consider going back ‘home’ now. Or are you exempt from your own ideologies which clearly dictate that this is not your ‘home.’ I think you might want to explore the idea that maybe you’re the one that’s been indoctrinated with contradictions like that!
Jake ArMStrong he literally stated that he doesn’t prescribe to any religion up above and he was raised Christian. Are you not reading his responses? Whose to say Christian’s aren’t here to steal and rob? Christian’s have done many horrible things throughout the years.
Jake ArMStrong nah, just sticking up for another decent human against a close minded bigot.
Jake ArMStrong Wow. Sir, just when I thought maybe we were past the surface b.s. and actually entering a real constructive discussion, you immediately revert to the bigotry and make it abundantly clear that you are not listening to anything I’m saying and rather just looking for opportunity to brain vomit. I’ll copy and paste my religious affiliation sentences from above to remind you: “I was raised Christian and since learning the divisions they create, I now reject all organized religion precisely because it leads to statements like “Sorry young man, I wasn’t rejecting science, I was rejecting your name that sounds like a muslim name.”
I have never stolen nor robbed from anyone. And I disassociate myself from and do not deal with those that do. How do you think Donald Trump got to where he is? You think he navigated his way through the capitalist business world by being a saint?!
Anyhow, it is becoming clearer that your extreme ignorance is coming from not listening to other people. What are you afraid of Jake? There is no shame in having an open mind. It’s extremely liberating and adds multiple levels of joy to your life. But perhaps you’re past the point where that’s possible, you’re at the point where joy itself is uncomfortable and you’re jealous of those that seem to be finding it.
In any case, I’ll paste it again, perhaps it’s repetition that’ll help you pay attention: “I was raised CHRISTIAN and since learning the divisions they create, I now reject all organized religion precisely because it leads to statements like “Sorry young man, I wasn’t rejecting science, I was rejecting your name that sounds like a muslim name.”
And furthermore, to add to your stereotyping self-admitted bigotry, it is not a Muslim name, it is an Arabic name. But let me guess, we’re all the same right? And even if I was, I’d own it, stand proudly, and do my part in educating people on what real Islam ideals are…the exact same as Christian ones. The exact same as Jewish ones. The exact same as Buddhist ones.
As a matter of fact, I’d love for you to do the research on how many people have been killed in the name of each religion and tally up which has the most blood on its hands…I think you’ll be surprised to find out that, well, it’s a landslide. And another clue…it’s not Islam.
Regardless, politics have hijacked them all for their own self-serving purposes, and if you don’t see that, that’s not my problem, that’s yours, and that’s the problem you’ve chosen to live with.
Not me. I love life. I love people. I love our world. And your choice to adopt a decree of pure unabashed ignorance is a reminder why…because of its diversity.
Jake ArMStrong I’m not trying to change yours. I’m trying to deflect your bigoted comments. And that question made no sense, but I’ll answer it anyway – because I live a life in which I choose to embrace and share the love and the joy that I feel rather than the hate.
Jake ArMStrong I started and opened and ran a cafe, I started and ran a print magazine while holding a full time job, to this day, I still work over 60 hours a week, and I’ve had an American passport and citizenship for 40 years. Again, nice tries though.
Jake ArMStrong Proudly and promptly every April 15. Any other questions your honor?
No one can predict something like this. It would be like someone in 1970 predicting what we have now.
Steve-O They did. And it’s all here.
