A Brief Explanation of the Kardashev Scale: How Far Can Humanity Really Advance?
“Let’s be honest, we have our fair share of problems on planet Earth: war, floods, disease, poverty, and environmental destruction (the list goes on and on, really). But we also have a lot of things going for us: the Alcubierre Warp Drive, invisibility cloaks, the Mars rover missions, the discovery of the Higgs (again, the list goes on and on).
How can we weigh all the exciting and inspiring scientific discoveries against all the destruction and chaos? We have an ever-expanding list of catastrophes that is coupled with (indeed, that parallels) our unrelenting march towards technological perfection. With such a coupling of unimaginable horrors and magnificent advancements, how can we possibly measure our status as a civilization?
One of the easiest ways to answer this question is to form a scale that will allow us to scientifically measure our technological abilities against the technological possibilities. Or in layman’s terms, something that will allow us to measure our awesomeness against the total possible awesomeness. Fortunately, there are several ways of conducting such measurements.
One is “The Kardashev Scale.”…”

Not far with who’s in charge
Human 72 He-who-shall-not-be-named does not speak for all of humanity. In fact, I argue, he provides the fire that innovation needs to squash him and his dinosaur ilk once and for all.
Human 72 thats true…..
Wasim Muklashy Wouldn’t you prefer sparking potentially productive conversation with his supporters rather than using ad hominems to demean and belittle? Mind you, you have every right to call them that, but I for one would rather try to actually talk with one of his supporters to get behind their positions and thinking process. Wouldn’t you too?
Jetset57 No. Not anymore.
I appreciate your position and truly thank you for your comment, but you have NO idea how much I tried that.
NO idea.
I desperately wanted to understand why.
I joined groups, read books, Meetups, you name it – I truly wanted to understand and engage, and, save for one or two that were actually open to critically thinking for themselves, all I got was ‘FAGGOT SNOWFLAKE LIBTARD NOBAMA FUCKER’ and those are just the nice replies.
I’m past that.
I did it.
It didn’t work.
And it doesn’t help that I’m Palestinian-American.
One look at me or their reaction as soon as I said my name was enough.
I’m now only focused on the ones that have woken up or the ones that are coming out of disillusionment and engaging with them and ensuring they are emboldened enough to go to the polls in November. As far as the rest, as harsh as it may sound, I’ll let evolution sort that one out.
That’s not my fight.
I’ve grown to recognize that everyone has a role to play in the current environment, but that one’s not my fight.
That may be your fight, someone else’s fight, but not mine.
Mine is moving the ones that are receptive to engaging forward.
The ones that I can learn from and the ones that are open to learning from me.
As far as the others, well, sorry, but I simply don’t give a shit about anyone that supports a man that refers to where I’m from and where my parents are from as a ‘shithole.’
I don’t have the energy or patience for that brand of ignorance anymore.
Being Republican is one thing, I can handle that.
I can respect that.
But being a supporter of the most bigoted public figure in our recent nation’s history – one that was propped up by the fiery lies of fellow racist Steve Bannon – that’s another thing.
That I have no intention or desire to handle.
History will handle them just fine.
When should one talk about development without changing the way the entire environment looks like? Environment is detailed deeper to all form of human activities. Civilization must be able to match with respect to all living objects. Without respect to them , civilization becomes a nine day wonder
