In Just 4 Hours, Google’s AI Mastered All The Chess Knowledge in History
“Chess isn’t an easy game, by human standards. But for an artificial intelligence powered by a formidable, almost alien mindset, the trivial diversion can be mastered in a few spare hours.
In a new paper, Google researchers detail how their latest AI evolution, AlphaZero, developed “superhuman performance” in chess, taking just four hours to learn the rules before obliterating the world champion chess program, Stockfish…”

Eh, meh. Not something to get excited about.
AIs handle games like Go and Chess very well because there’s a distinct set of rules to operate by in either of them. They’re not so good in dealing with things that don’t have a pattern and probably won’t be for a long time.

Charles Gaines what does your mind deal effectively with that are void of pattern? Pattern perception and pattern generation is at the core of what biological brains do.
Jan-Erik Vinje AI can’t pattern generate, so…
Charles Gaines ohh they can generate patterns from artworks in music or imagery, via chessmoves or chatbott replies to robotic movements of autonomous drones, bipedal robots or selfdriving cars.
Fair point.
Big whoop, I did it in two!
