The Farms of the Future Will Be Automated From Seed to Harvest
“Swarms of drones buzz overhead, while robotic vehicles crawl across the landscape. Orbiting satellites snap high-resolution images of the scene far below. Not one human being can be seen in the pre-dawn glow spreading across the land.
This isn’t some post-apocalyptic vision of the future à la The Terminator. This is a snapshot of the farm of the future. Every phase of the operation—from seed to harvest—may someday be automated, without the need to ever get one’s fingernails dirty…”

Not good
Yup. That’s the way its going to happen. Then the trucker’s won’t be needed anymore to get the produce from the farm to the distribution center, where robotic vehicles will haul it around to load it onto autonomous vans for delivery to a shrinking consumer base of people who used to work for the several industries mane obsolete by the coming of autonomous vehicles and AI.
If we don’t have cab and truck drivers globally millions will have no way to support their families and will starve
Liam Cole that’s capitalism for ya. Creative Destruction!
Charles-A Rovira That’s also sowing the seeds for a future where we have to do less ‘work’, we can spend more time with family and friends, more time cultivating our communities, more time nurturing our hobbies and starting businesses, a world where resources are abundant, living is sustainable, and UBI is distributed by taxing the robots. That’s not capitalism, that’s evolution.
Charles-A Rovira Research Universal Basic Income and see my reply to Charles above. That’s all part of the thought process as well. We’re going to be better off than ever before.
Wasim Muklashy sounds like you have never had real money problems or have never been laid off simply because you got replaced by a cheaper alternative
Wasim Muklashy I agree that it will be better, but I believe the transition may be incredibly rough. Capitalism/socialism/communism are extremely slow to adapt systems, often requiring many years to transition; only when we evolve to recognize the REAL value of resources rather than their artificially represented values (currency) will we have the thriving and abundant world you are referring to.
Liam Cole It sounds like you are projecting and assuming a LOT because you have nooooooo idea. It’s the very reason I’ve started looking at the alternatives. Perhaps it’s time you did too.
Edwin Laarz Oh no doubt about it, it’s not going to be easy, especially for those that will try to hold onto the ‘traditional’ way and system, but it’s all already being replaced by everything from automation to 3d printing to cryptocurrencies, all geared towards an abundant and sustainable manner. My fear is that people just aren’t paying attention and when Moore’s law catches up with them, it’ll hit like a ton of bricks.
Wasim Muklashy I’ll agree with all of that except the cryptocurrencies. Currency, in any form, creates a false representation of value. Gold has little real value outside of some electronic components, and even then it can be replaced; yet it is considered highly valuable because those who value currency hoard it. Helium is extremely useful for electronics (reduces friction in hard drivers), science (cools the large hadron collider), manufacturing (used in the production of fibre optics), diving (mixed with oxygen for deep sea diving), and many others, yet is wasted in balloons because people with lots of currency do not value it. Cryptocurrencies are just an attempt at keeping currency outside of typical banking/government control, however it is still a method of quantifying value which ultimately returns to our current materialistic society.

Fastest thinking
Edwin Laarz Sure. I can roll with that. BUt with the caveat that if you hoard all the cryptos, they lose their value, as they need to be circulated to have any value at all, so the ‘greed’ part is mitigated. Furthermore, being on the blockchain, the fraud part is mitigated as well. So i think it’s at least a step in the right direction. To what? I have no idea…but it’s pretty apparent the current system can definitely use a reboot.
And why not of course?
