When the bots take our jobs: Video explains how an automated economy could work
#future = #robots #tech #innovation #science #design #singularity #engineering #automation #AI #artificialintelligence #economy #finance #universalbasicincome #basicincome #money #UBI
I think this argument is specious, as not all jobs can be replaced by robots. New job opportunities will open up as the older ones are replaced. Also, the guaranteed universal income will simply flat-out fail because it’s not sustainable. What drives the economy is innovation, and presumably you will undoubtedly have AGI and ASI generating innovation in the future.
I posit that our entire economic structure will have to eventually shift. We need to think out of the box here.
Also, we don’t even know what exactly we’ll have with AGI and ASI. Perhaps we can ask it to resolve this problem for us.
It would be foolhardy to put into place a “transitional program” when we cannot even be sure what we’re transitioning to.
Ok
Friedrich der Große There are better arguments for BI than against. It would be to cumbersome to outline them all in a comments section, so I would gently suggest that you research not for concordance with your current resistance to BI, but rather search for all our the best the arguments for its merits before solidifying your position. It’s a very foreign idea, no doubt, but we are moving into an age that is very different than the 20th century and old models just won’t fit.
Phoenix Chastaine For sure we are going to transition into something never before seen. And granted, I get there’s more to BI than can be discussed in this informal venue. But the basics is that the government will be taxing businesses as a “penalty” for using robotics — to pay the displaced workers.
Now, from the business standpoint, what’s the difference? They may as well not bother with the bots and hire the flesh and blood.
But however you structure this, there will undoubtedly be unforeseen dynamics that might bring the entire thing crashing down, given our current economic structure.
But with the advent of AGI and ASI, it will be a huge game changer again. We may be able to augment ourselves to raise our level of intelligence in various ways, or even to merge with our AGI / ASI. Or something else I have not thought of.
So any attempts to plan for a “transition” will be so far exceeded by what really happens we shouldn’t even bother. The whole notion of the Singularity scares a lot of people, unfortunately, with thoughts of Skynet, etc. Nothing can be further from the truth.
So let’s create this super-intelligence and boldly embrace it.
